Ontario Auto Insurance Reform

In November 2010, the Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) and the Ministry of Transportation (Ontario) undertook what is called the "Uninsured Motor Vehicle Project". By law all MTO licensed vehicles licensed for the road in Ontario require insurance, this has not changed. However, the new project undertaken by IBC and MTO will see the insurance industry in Ontario share insurance information with the MTO. The intent is for the MTO to be able to validate that anybody renewing a plate or sticker is indeed insured using an electronic database. Currently the vehicles affected are what are classified as "Private Passenger Vehicles". For complete information regarding the new program please visit the Insurance Bureau of Canada website.
