We get asked this question by the homeowners we insure all the time…the simple answer is YES! It is very important when selecting a roofing contractor (or any other contractor) to work on your home that you confirm that they have the appropriate insurance coverage and WSIB coverage. We strongly recommend that you ask the contractor for “proof” that they carry at least $2,000,000 of General Liability Insurance, and that they provide you with a “Certificate” to guarantee you that this is still in force.   At the same time we also recommend that you ask for proof that your contractor is carrying the appropriate “WSIB – Workplace Safety and Insurance Board” coverage to ensure that the workers at your home are adequately protected. There always seems to be a “fly-by-night” contractor willing to do work on your home for cash and cheaper than someone else…don’t fall for this trap!  These so-called ‘contractors’ probably don’t have liability insurance and WSIB coverage.
